– New Year’s visit to a Shinto shrine

Hello this is Mai and a happy new year 2019!!!

It is still in a holiday mood in a town and some people might be busy for shopping??hehe

I was a day off on Jan. 1st so felt a new year a little bit!

First I ate soba(Buckwheat noodle)! We eat soba noodles called “toshikoshi soba” (year-crossing soba) to wish for a long lasting life on New Years Eve in Japan!

Then I did” Hatsumoude” !! It is when you visit a shrine on new years.

Many Japanese people visit a Shinto shrine during the first 3 days of January in order to make traditional New Year’s wishes for health and happiness.

So I went to “Senso-ji temple” in Asakusa and this spot is one of famous for!!!IMG_1128

Packed with soooo many people!!! I heard it will be super crowded there but it was more than expected! There were also many street shops there so it was like a festival LOL

And there is a looooong line to pray at the temple and I couldn’t do that lol So I went to Asakusa shrine just nexet ti the temple!

Asakusa Shrine is located in a same site as Senso-ji temple but it was not so packed! I did hatsumoude for abput 14 mins!Yay!

And we can’t forget “Amazake” as we visit a first shrine! This is a sweet type of sake called Amazake and it is a drink prepared from fermented sweet rice.

I actually thought I can get the sake for free as I normally had it in my hometown( very country side LOL)

But I can also guess all the sake wouldn’t make ppl satisfied if it is served for free in a huge temple/shrine such a Asakusa!hehe

But “Amazake” is very tasty so you should try once!!!

The sky tree I saw on the way to home was new year color!! White and Red! Since the 2 colors are used for Japanese  flag!

How did you spend a new year? Wish 2019 turns out to be the happiest and the best for you all!!!

Thank you for reading! Night night xxx
