Spring flowers

Hey guys, it’s Summer here. It’ s still cold lately but we do have some hot days which means spring is almost here XD

Talking about spring in Japan what is the first thing you could think of? Sakura (cherry blossom) ! Yes, of course! But besides sakura we also have plum flower blossom season and peach flower blossom season too. And actually these three flowers are kinda hard to tell apart, sometimes I don’t even know which one is which one lol but they do have some differences in characteristics, charms and blooming seasons. That’s what i wanna talk about today.

First up is plum blossoms. Plum trees bloom earlier than sakura, from January to March with round-tipped petals and the flowers bloom close to the branch.

Then we have cherry blossom between March and April with split-tipped petals that form heart shapes.

And last but not least is peach blossom. Peach tree flowers are known as a decoration during the Japanese spring tradition of Girl’s Day (Hina Matsuri) celebrated on March 3rd. Historically, this was when peach flowers began to bloom, so the occasion is also known as Momo-no-Sekku, or “peach blossom festival.” Peach trees blossom from early to mid-April with petals that taper to sharp points.

This year I really hope we can get to do hanami (flower viewing) since we couldn’t do it last year due to corona virus *fingers crossed* 🤞

P/s: I actually don’t know if that flower above is peach or cherry lol if you can distinguish it please let me know! Thank you so much 🤩
